I got a nice Toshiba laptop off of ebay for $40 - Techra 750DVD

This will handle audio, USB video, apache, php, and serial communication with VEX controller.

The laptop also has a built in parallel port which means I can dig out my old LCD projects and get those working in conjunction with the robot.

Gentoo linux is compiling now.

The more I am reading the more it becomes apparent that I will be able to just pipe appropriate commands to the serial port. Should allow a plethora of options for communicating with the controller.
